Name: Katara Bei Fong
Age: 16, nearly 17
Gender: Female
Status: Single
Physical Description: Katara is quite tall and slim, with clear blue eyes, tanned skin and dark brown hair, which is usually pulled back into a sort of plait and her traditional 'hair loopies'. It was her mother's favourite hairstyle.
Clothing Description: Katara wears a sort of light blue dress over some loose black trousers and some plain, 'sensible' shoes. The combination works very well, and stops her from looking that little bit too girly. However, if she ever wants to, she slips off the trousers and just wears the dress, making her feel ever so slightly more elegant in herself. When she does this, she generally walks about barefoot.
Katara has a necklace that used to belong to her sister. She really likes to remember her sister in everything she does. Just the little reminder of something makes her smile...
It's not a lot, but it's something...
Past: Katara grew up in a small village up north, where it was often quite snowy. It was just on the outskirts of a large city- they were almost like the countryside of Omashu. Omashu is a giant port city. It used to be a lot colder, but because so many people live there now, and it's so close to the sea, it's actually fairly mild weather. If her parents ever wanted to 'treat' her and her siblings, they would be brought down to the city.
One day, her father (who owned a small stretch of land in the village, where he bred some rather hairy looking cows) went down to the city to do a bit of trading. He was late back that day, and her mother was fussing something awful, running about the place and trying to keep the kids under control. Her stress panicked the kids slightly, and Sokka especially kept acting up.
Eventually, late at night, their father finally arrived home, carrying with him a small toddler. The child was pale- a ghostly pale, with a shock of dark hair. Her mother seemed to recoil at the sight of the little girl, even though upon closer inspection she was really quite a pretty little thing.
Her father proudly pronounced that the little girl was called Toph- a blind girl he'd rescued from a group of 'evil' pirates. Katara's parents had spent the night long arguing over him bringing Toph into their family. However, their mother came downstairs the next morning, tired, defeated, and glumly pronounced that they, "had a new sister".
The children, of course, were delighted with this at first. Toph fascinated them. Toph was a couple of years younger than Katara, and to them seemed very cute. Her blindness was a point of particular interest; they found it so strange that she used a little walking stick.
But as the children grew, Toph became a far less popular figure. Their father paid far too much attention to her needs for their liking, and soon, Toph was no longer an exotic object of interest, but a stranger- someone different. They often teased her about her paper white skin, and laughed at her blindness.
All did- but Katara.
Katara and Toph had actually argued a lot at first. Katara was often frustrated by Toph's lack of help around the barns, and Toph found Katara to be slightly over-bearing at times. But, as the others distanced themselves from Toph, Katara found herself being drawn ever closer to the strange little thing. By the time she hit her sixteenth, Toph was more like her sister than any of her natural ones...
Then her father died...
... and her mother got rid of Toph. Katara didn't know when or how it happened. All she knew was that one day, when she woke up, Toph's necklace was lying across the room from her and Toph's bed empty.
And she had never forgiven her mother for it.
Quickly, and perhaps a little rashly, she made a swift decision to leave for Omashu, and retrace Toph's steps. Her brother Sokka, realising how much this meant to her, helped her flee, and soon she set sail on the Star of the Sea...
She was going to get her sister back.
Personality: Katara is (she hopes) generally quite a nice person. She's good at controlling her temper, even if her blood does shoot up by a couple of degrees quite often, and she's very protective of those around her. She supposes, in some ways, she's an almost mothering figure, which is why Toph found her so annoying at first. She sometimes wishes she could be a little more apathetic, and cut herself off from those around her. She'd like it to be just her and Toph- like they once were.
So she cuts herself off, and plays pretend.
Katara doesn't really talk much about where she's from, but the crew do know she has a lost sister. Most of them believe Toph must be dead or something... but Katara always was optimistic.
Besides, she had this feeling... she'd know if Toph was dead.
She'd know...
Likes: Toph, dreaming, drawing, practicing with her sword, being with those she loves
Dislikes: Her mother, bullies, discrimination against the handi-capped, liars and betrayal
Skills: Sokka did teach her a few things about a sword and a boomeraang... She can also sew!
Pets: Em... do the hairy cows count?
Weapons carried: Her brothers sword and boomeraang.
Other: Toph is 14, for anyone who wants to know. =)
