The HMS Dignity was headed for Kyoshi. Much to the crew's reluctance, including it's captain. Kyoshi was the worst port a naval ship could go to. Especially the Royal Navy. They all said they had it under control, of course that's very diplomatically put, what actually happened was the Navy paraded about making themselves seen, and if anyone couldn't think of a story on the spot about why exactly they were selling what looked to be a Rear-Admiral's shirt sleeve and epaulettes, they were bunged in the already overcrowded prison, ready to be shipped off to some God forsaken hell hole.
The illegal trading still went on and there really wasn't anything the RN could do about it. So the place was generaly avoided but in the case of HMS Dignity, this wasn't possible.
Captain Truesdale stood on the bridge and looked out towards the land. She turned to her Lieutenant.
"God, I hate this place." She sighed, "And God help those poor sods in service there!"
"Yes, I know how they feel. I served three years in Froldsheild."
"Good grief! I know Kyoshi is bad but Froldshield! And for three years! It's a wonder you made it into Warrent Officer!"
Lieutenant Rodgers laughed light-heartedly.
Captain Truesdale had a very good relationship with her crew. She would make sure that they all where happily at work, most of the time they were, and she was very laid-back about rank difference. Having said all this, she was anything but a push-over. If she thought you weren't pulling your weight you would be sent straight home and refused a place on board that ship and any other ship that Truesdale had the pleasure of commading. One thing that this Captain couldn't stand was sloppyness. She saw it almost as a crime aboard a vessel the crossed the ocean for someone to sleep at night not having done their duty properly and leaving the ship in a mess. She would have none of it. No drunken stupors where to be had on her ship also, she didn't mind a few pints or maybe something stronger, but if you got blocked and couldn't raise your head in the morning to get to work you were on the next boat home. And it wouldn't be hers.
Lieutenant Rodgers was Truesdale's senior in years but she had outranked him by two. Truesdale respected him though and in turn he respected her. Everyone respected Truesdale. Except for some who had a thing against women and skipping ranks.
Truesdale believed that if you gained the respect of others then they would be loyal to you no matter what. Another reason why she had reached where she was at such a very young age. Her revolutionary way of running a ship would only work for her and for that she had people's attention. Not all of it good.
But Lieutenant Rodgers was one of those people who got along with people even those he was throwing in prison. And so he fitted in well at his second-in-command position under Captain Truesdale.
"Well, no point in dreading it, let's just get in and out and get it over with shall we? Take the bearings and give the order to dock, Lieutenant."
"Yes Captain." And off went Rodgers to do so.
The Captain sighed and gave the port of Kyoshi a stern glare before turning inside.
